Selden Standard's ethos revolves around a farm-to-table concept, ensuring that every ingredient shines with freshness and authenticity. Diners rave about the meticulously crafted plates, with a notable mention of the Sweet Potato Agnolotti ($25) and the heavenly Seared Scallops in a luscious Thai coconut broth ($40). Here, flavors are not just ingredients thrown together; they dance harmoniously, creating a melody of taste that captivates the senses.
One highlight of the menu is the ever-evolving selection of dishes designed to tantalize your palate. As witnessed by our patrons, like Pete West who highly recommends the Rigatoni ($20) and Walleye, each dish reverberates with respect to seasonality. The culinary team’s commitment to excellence is palpable in every bite, leaving a lasting impression on diners. Even the Vegetable Carpaccio ($18) is elevated with a mix of parmesan and caper that transforms the ordinary into extraordinary.
Desserts at Selden Standard are no afterthought. With offerings like the warm chocolate cake paired with coffee stracciatella ice cream ($12) and a daily selection of sorbet $8, sweet endings here are bound to evoke joy. Many guests, like Nicole Roman, found their culinary journey culminating in what she described as a "full-blown foodgasm experience"— a fitting tribute to the skillful hands in the kitchen.
The attention to detail extends beyond the plate. Guests frequently note the top-notch service, with staff who are knowledgeable and attentive, enhancing your dining journey. Even as diners navigate through the menu, they’re often greeted by the passion of the staff, exemplified by managers who actively ensure that your experience is smooth and enjoyable.

“ One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Every detail hit the mark—from the warm, attentive service to the jaw-dropping flavors. The standout? A pasta dish with creamed corn that was pure magic—rich, silky, and unexpectedly perfect. If you’re on the fence, go. Then thank yourself later ”
“ The whole experience was absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend making the trip to try it for yourself. We started with the Beet Salad and Halloumi which very good. Then we had the Duck Breast as our main along with Roasted Carrots which made a great pairing. We finished with the Chocolate Hazelnut Bar and the Apple Baklava along with some decaf coffees for dessert. Highly recommend anything we ordered or anything that you would like off their menu. No doubt that they can make anything taste amazing. ”
“ A Culinary Symphony in Detroit: A Review of Shelden Standard From the moment we stepped through the door, it felt less like a dining establishment and more like a portal to a gastronomic dream. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary, a carefully orchestrated symphony of flavors that left us utterly speechless. Our waitress, the delightful Ashley, guided us through the menu with an expertise that bordered on artistry. She didn't just take our order; she curated a culinary journey, ensuring each course flowed seamlessly into the next, maximizing the interplay of flavors. The magic began with the first bite – the spices, so perfectly balanced, danced across our palates like sugar plum fairies, each ingredient a star in a perfectly choreographed ballet of taste. The concept of farm-to-table was not just a tagline here; it was a palpable reality. Every dish tasted of freshness, of ingredients lovingly nurtured and expertly prepared. My husband and I indulged in a five-course meal, each plate a masterpiece, culminating in a dessert that was the perfect sweet crescendo. And the price? Unbelievable. For under 200, we experienced a level of culinary artistry with drinks included! Words seem inadequate to describe the sheer pleasure of dining at Shelden Standard. This wasn't merely eating; it was a full-blown "foodgasm" experience, a sensory explosion that left us in a state of blissful reverie. Five stars simply don't seem enough. Our only lament? We live in San Antonio, Texas, and the prospect of finding a comparable experience feels daunting. We're already planning a return trip to Detroit solely for the privilege of dining here again. They has raised the bar impossibly high, and we're forever changed. If you're looking for more than just a meal, if you're seeking a transcendent culinary adventure, look no further. ”
“ I was hesitant about this place, but they won an award and I totally understand why!!! this place is absolutely phenomenal!!! I'd recommend getting a reservation because it gets packed. Dress elegantly. The food is AMAZING. The best food I've had in the Detroit metro. The beet salad was okay, but the rigatoni and duck breast...OMG. The chocolate flourless cake is delicious. Very pricey though, the portions are small and meant to be shared. The service is sophisticated, waitress was friendly. They treat you like you're a king or queen. Very upscale. If you're celebrating a special occasion, love great food or want to splurge, come to this restaurant asap. They also rotate the menu every week, so in a few months you'll probably have a completely new menu. For an up to date menu, check their website and try placing an order. ”
“ Anything that you get at this place is going to be totally fantastic. The sweet potato baba ghanoush was delicious. The beef tartare was to die for. Duck Confit and the octopus was amazing. Very fun concept, kinda like shareable tapas, you can try different items from the menu. The cocktails are great. For dessert the pistachio pudding was outstanding ”
“ I had the pleasure of finally eating here last night after ive been wanting to for a while now and the over all experience was fantastic. We had a bit of a rough start with a server (rough day maybe) but we ended up getting a different one, Lauren i believe her name was and she was so amazing, very attentive, informative and even helped with some of her suggestions that she liked. The food was beyond amazing, great balance, perfectly executed techniques. The wood fired bread with soft cheese was to die for, so soft and light charred. The current pavlova is now one of my favorite desserts ive had in a while. The wood fired mushroom dish im pretty sure i licked at the plate. Duck confit, crispy skin, sweet agrodolce, and i cant forget the pasta which can never be over looked when noodles are made in house, garlicy, oiled, ramps i slurped it up I personally love wood fired concepts, we sat next to the grill so i could see everyone work which is something that always brings me joy being able to watch them create. I also have to say that the manager that i met , Andrew was one of the most accomidating, and personable people ive gotten to meet, he went above and beyond to show us a great night, i dont drink but he showed us some of the most delicious mocktails we have ever had that i might not have thought about with out him. Thank you very much Andrew for making our little impromtu date night something to remember, cant wait to come back and try some more new things. *thank the kitchen as well, i hope they enjoyed the beers :) ”
“ If you're looking to make a dinner resi in Detroit, just stop. This is your place. Everything from the food, service, and ambience—just amazing! This is one of those restaurants where you just throw a dart and it's 10/10. I typically do not like fish and we ordered several dishes including 2 with fish and apparently my new thing is, I don't like fish unless at Selden Standard. I am not calling out specific items in this review– we tried a lot of the items and it was very quickly evident that ANYTHING you get here is amazing. So, just try it all and be adventurous. The place was packed but not loud- which is rare. There is a decent amount of space between tables- could be just bit more. Our server had insane knowledge on the food. The lighting is low and perfectly sets the mood, but bright enough to see your guests and menu, which is tricky! I love when everyone from the hostess, to the servers, to the kitchen feels confident/cool/easy. This was the vibe. Also, nobody rushed us out- European style where they leave you to your food and company. Perfect for a date night or a small 4-6 person group. Can't wait to make a return visit! ”
“ One of my favorite meals I’ve had when visiting Detroit! You can tell they use the best ingredients, and everything is prepared perfectly. We had a group of 3 and ordered about 9 plates which I thought was a good amount. Their menu changes seasonally I believe but my top recommendations are the Agnolotti, Walleye and Rigatoni. They are all excellent, and definitely the best bites of the evening. I would also try the seared Halloumi, roasted mushrooms and whatever steak they have on special. Skip the Cacio e Pepe it’s just okay. Cocktails were also very solid and service was excellent. We had a lemon bread pudding for dessert that was fantastic. Highly recommend a stop here if you’re in Detroit! ”
